Hi William,
"If" scenarios are the best to get students to think outside of the box. Great hypothetical to promote critical thinking.
Patricia Scales
This is true. I always ask my students, What would you do if? Think about it and then answer.
Hi Shane,
A good question to generate critical thinking. This question makes you really think out of the box. I love to do scenarios with my students to generate critical thinking.

I am currently teaching a intro to Business class. I asked the students why it is important to develop a solid business plan when presenting your business plan to a potential investor.
Hi Carlos,
This is great! Students get to see things that will be going on in the real world. Awesome exercise to get students to think critically.

In my Diagnostic course I put the students in groups and assign a lead tech for each fault I put in the vehicle. The groups have to diagnose the faults that I put in the cars by using the resources that we went over during lecture, they can not ask the instructor. The instructor acts as a customer at this time. The lead tech has to explain the fault to the instructor. After each diagnoses I assign a new lead tech so that everyone has to get involved in the diagnoses.
Hi Dwight,
Jeopardy is a great came to play to test one's knowledge base. Students love it, and they really retain the information when learning is taking place through the use of having fun, a game. We need to make learning fun for our students. Just think, learning started out as being fun when we started learning in kindergarten.
Patricia Scales
I have had great success with jeopardy in my classes. It does take a little longer to set up and I mainly use it before tests, but my students seem to really enjoy the competitive nature of it.
Hi Pamela,
Yes! Our students need as many think-out-of-the-box exercises as they can get. Being able to think critically is a plus.

Hi Jason,
Awesome activity to promote critical thinking. Students really have to put their brain to the test. This exercise really helps prepare students for the real world.
Patricia Scales
Anything to get them to think outside the box is a good exercise. I give them what I call a essential question on the board everyday and I try to keep it critical so they have to answer from their brain. Its fun to see some of the unique answers that students come up with.

Hi Pamela,
Great exercise to get students to think critically! Good situtation for students to be in to help prepare them for the real world.

give students the opportunity to design a menu that will then be used in a restaurant setting to feed guests. the students design the menu, write the recipes, order th eproducts, then cook the food and deliver the final product to guests.
I use training aids to set up a scene with a patient and a bolld draw. Symptoms given the student must figure out what to draw and do the skill. Sometimes letting the light come on by itself is a wonderful thing.

Hi Jeffrey,
Nice way to break the monotony of just plain lecture. Students like a variety when it comes to learning.

Hi Tricia,
Love it! What a great way to teach students about critical thinking. Scenarios really give students a real dose at critical thinking.

Hi,
We have a critical thinking course which shows video clips on Medical Assistants in the office setting. It then shows examples of what to do or what NOT to do... Then the students have to collectively decide which path to follow. Each scenario then unfolds with more critical thinking decisions to be made. At the end of the clips, the office manager appears, letting us know if we made the correct decisions in the scenarios. Its enlightening to see if the students choose the correct responses.
Hi Yolanda,
Love it! Students need to learn about how to handle different situations in the workforce. Students really learn how things are in the real world from doing case studies/scenarios.

When reviewing for a term test. I divide the class into two group, the first students to come into the class become one group. They review for 10 minutes. The bonus points are from critical thinking questions and situations. The scenio, for example is: If a patient is upset because he or she has been waiting to be seat, how would you handle this situation? The student then discuss with their team, what approach would be best in this situation. Ultimately the goal is to come to a rationale conclusion and problem solve.
I definitely agree on the crucial importance critical thinking has for students. In the trichology chapter, they're learning about hair conditions, scalp disorders & diseases. They must be able to retain the knowledge of analyzing each client individually and to react professionaly when they have a client in the school or once on their own if they come in contact with a disorder or disease that they must not provide services on.
