Advanced Courses
Does anyone have advanced IT courses, such as Server 2008? The material is very detailed and complex.
I use simulations for practice and to drive-home some skills, as well as Microsoft training materials, but a lot of the material is not suited for active lessons within our class time.
Does anyone else have classes like this?
I have no problem creating activities for the introductory classes, but the higher level ones are a challenge.
Hi Cameron,
What a great way to force students to think on their own. When they get their job they are not going to have us there by their side, therefore it is good for them to solve problems on their own.

I do not teach these course materials, but I do teach advanced engineering systems on a computer that are complex. I've found the best way to create small goals to achieve within the software & require the students to work in groups to try and figure it out themselves. This seems to help them understand more than having me just tell them what to do. It can be time consuming at the beginning of the course, but by the end the students have a greater understanding of the functions & we can cover more information more in-depth.
Hi Heather,
No I do not teach classes at this level. Have you tried having the DOE find you books pertaining to Server 2008? There definitely should be some textbooks and workbooks to accompany the textbooks so that students can apply what they have learned.
