Taking Their Work to the Field
I have found that if my lectures are more of a class discussion students get to give their imput and help facilitate the discussions. Also many times I do a mixture of lecture and activities. Generally, I will send my journalism students out to get the story, give them a time limit to get the store and present it. Trying to simulate what it is like in the field. Then, we will meet back and discuss our stories.
Hi Phill,
It will amaze you how some students can really think out of the box and resolve conflict. Sharing stories are great, but let the students have input as well, and if they are off base you can correct them.

I use a lot of real experiences from 40 years in management, but I now realize that I need to allow the students to tell me what the solution to the problem should have been rather than telling them how it turned out first.
Hi Sandi,
A perfect combination to teaching is to allow your students to have fun while learning. Even adults like to have fun. Let's make learning fun!

I agree that giving tasks and problems will increase their learning and also make it fun. Students learn more when it is fun to learn. I each nursing and I will incorporate some of the ideas presented into my teaching style
I like your method of introducing class discussions to lectures. I also use that approach because I believe that student involvement increases their interest and learning results. I also like your idea of getting the students to join in activities. Giving them task and problems to solve also facilitates learning.
Hi Brian,
Yes, we must boost our students confidence. We have to be our students biggest cheerleader.

I try to give deadlines and challenges to gain confidence in their skills. I want them feel they are ABLE, not DISABLE.
That is a great Idea. I am sure your students enjoy the assignment
Hi Andrea,
Super way to make learning apply to the real world. Students enjoy and want real-world learning.
