new strategies for active learning

Most of the classes I teach have a hands on component. Most of the time is active learning in Film and television classes and since the majority are adult students I try to keep lecturing in front of a class to a minimum so I do not get the bobbing heads. (sleeping student)

Hi Racquel,
When we teach to all kinds of learners no one is left out, and we do our due diligence to reach everyone.

I agree with you Shana, When teaching different age groups we must remember that some are cognitive and some are listeners verses the ones hands on. We have to be able to reach all levels of learning.

I feel that hands on learning sessions are one of the best methods of active learning. After the initial demonstration, I'll ask students to repeat what they've seen on their own and to keep practicing. Sometimes, they come up with even better methods than I have taught and it becomes a more interactive and fun process.

Hi Shana,
It is engaging and exciting for students when they are performing hands-on activities.
