obsticles in active learning
i learnt alot from this class and the effort was soild and highly appreciated the questions about the challenges in active learning were a little confusing though
No one has mention obstacles here. Evening students come in fatigued from working all day. Some of them would love to be able to zone out while I lecture and not have to do any analytical or critical thinking. For me the obstacle is getting the fatigued students to buy in to a active process. They are used to the lecture format because it is easy for them to zone out and from the habit of the prior teachers.
What it takes for me to get the buy in is for me to be persistent and put up with the grumpy faces when I say OK, every one break off into your groups. They think it is work, and it is, but it is how they will learn and retain. College is work

The other benefit to active learning is how it can energize the instructor as well. Time can go by quicker and you can learn more about the students because they are actively learning.
