Students grading
students grading should be base on their performance. Of course other class activities do matters.
Hi Alexander,
The type of students we cater to have mounds of problems. When our students problems begin to surface the first thing they want to let go off is school. When school shoould be the last thing they let go off because it is certainly their ticket to a better life.

Sometimes, students have other items that come in the way while attending school - adult learners tend to have more external influences disrupting the grading process - I think sometimes the personal circumstances have to be considered.
Hi Teresa,
My institution has 5% indicated one each course syllabus to promote participation. This 5% can really make a difference in a letter grade.

I agree students should be graded on how well completed a task. However, it is also important to not only have performance based grading but task based grading. What I mean by that is, Did they participate in the lecture/discussion? If they did, the should earn a passing grade (pass/fail).
Hi Willis,
Competition among peers can cause students to work even harder. Students can certainly learn a lot from each other.

In my Culinary Lab classes, instead of me AWAYS evaluating the students finished plates, I have begun having them taste and evaluate each others work. it always leads to 'lively' discussion. There is a friendly spirit of competition among peers.
Hi Lyndi,
Learning seems to really stick with students when they perform hands-on activities. Students enjoy hands-activities as well.

Hi Michelle,
This is the same way I grade my students. I think it's a great way to get them engaged into the activity when they know it's worth something. And plus I think hands-on activties is a great way of learning!
Hi Michelle,
I give my students a class participation grade, but I also give them a separate grade on each hands-on activity.

I grade my students on classroom prefromance and how involved they become in the on hands activities.
