Active Learning
I did glean some helpful information from this some of this section. I like the section that highlighted how to evaluate if teaching is taking place. And how to incorporate with your lecture, a discussion. I have seen that this style of delivery does in deed assist with student information retention. It can be an easy assessment of where students are during the course of the class.
Hi Neal,
Active learning is surely a way to reinforce learning.

I agree with this topic. Active learning is one of my favorite. I really feel that hand on or any type of material that gives a deeper understanding helps the learner.
Hi Angela,
Interest and excitement of the material presented by the instructor have a lot to do with the interest and excitement of the student. The presenter may need some pointers on making the information exciting. The presenter probably is not an instructor and have no formal training in teaching.

Hi Michele,
Students tend to remember better and grasp quicker when visuals are involved. Visuals make information stick.

I have found that students who participate in the active learning have an easier time of mentally visualizing test questions and responding appropriately. The material to be learned is easier to recall.
Hello,
I also agree. My full-time job is law enforcement, which requires several re-certifications on an annual basis. Therefore, I also consider myself an adult learner. Although, from year to year a law may not change at all, law enforcement officers are required to sit in a class and hear the same material over and over again. Instead of the instructors putting some effort into the material, they would much rather show the same Power Point presentations from year to year. I would much rather have active learning so that the old material won't get old.

Hi Eddie,
Active learning is an exciting time for students; they would rather be doing while learning.

I think active learning is a neccessary step in the learning process. I believe when a student has the part in their hand they are more active and more effectivly learning. I try and pass around parts and tools that we use throughout our courses. It not only keeps the student actively engaged but it keeps them awake as well.
Hi Tina,
Lecture has to take place for effective learning to come about. The nice mixture is to lecture and then have the student apply the information by doing.
Patricia Scales
As with most institutions, the lecture method is primarily used to convey information. While I am held to lecturing via power point, I try to make the learning process interactive by asking them critical thinking questions during lecture to tie the information together and get them more involved. We then usually follow lecture with a group activity that incorporates what we just went over in lecture.
Hi Elizabeth,
Students love it when they are actively involved. Continue to let your students learn in an active way. Lecture, show, and then let your students do. I have found that this is an effective way to incorporate active learning into your curriculum.

Hello,
I feel that as an adult learner myself, that I am very comfortable with the active learning environment. As a culinary instructor, I used to just stand up and demo / lecture, but as I have become more comfoartable in my role, I have been getting my students more involved at every poin in our day. Asking review questions and having them walk me through my demo is a great way to ensure that they are retaining information and will be able to apply it in the practical application later.
Thank you!

Hi Glenn,
Active learning is so effective! Most students get it when they can do it!
Patricia Scales
i to find when they have the parts in their hands and see how and where it goes it help them learn faster.
I agree for some students it is easier to retain information, when they are acctually working with what they are learning hands on.
Hi Dorcia,
Active learning is extremely effective. Most people have to do it in order to fully understand it.
