Hi John,
Using PowerPoint presentations, role playing, case studies, scenarios, etc. are alo great methods to use to promote interest and variety.

I like to get students involved by having them help with my cooking demonstrations. I also get students involved by having them duplicate my cooking demonstrations. Then, I have them make it over and over until it comes out correctly.

Yes I have been doing this naturally for years as I always started to see the eyes start to close after 20 minutes of lecture so I have always involved students with group discussions and using questions to spark a discussion that I facilitate.
But this course actually showed me why this method is successful

Hi Randall,
What a great way to get all involved and eager to learn. I like how the question enhances the learning objective.

Hi Jon-Paul,
Awesome! Anytime you can incorporate technology into the classroom you should. Most of our students have internet access on their telephone.

Hi John,
Super assignment! Students learn how to apply this concept both personally and professionally.

Hi Marcelo,
When you get students to understand the "why" of anything, they tend to have a better understanding of it all.

One of the techniques I apply in my classes for critical thinking activities is the understanding of why they apply that technique and what is the outcome against not applying the technique.
In other words, to understand why they are doing it that way, instead of following the procedure...
That allows them to rethink the procedure and understand the excercise

I teach safety and sanitation and I ask students to go to their own kitchen and using the knowledge and ideas discussed in class observe, document, and analyze their own kitchen's sanitation condition. It has worked great. Then students give their kitchen a grade and be willing to defend it with the class

I am a huge fan of using their mobile technology in the classroom. I'll pose a question, break them into groups and have them do researcyh with their cell phones for 10 minutes, then give a 90 second presentation. This comepls high energy discovery.

I know this is basic, but I include a "participation" grade element and discuss along with the syllabus at the first class. I explain that I use the A - P - C questioning technique: I (A)sk a question, then (P)ause while I make eye contact with all students and let each of them develop an answer, and finally (C)all on a student by name. I require a "best" answer.
I often call on additional students and generate discussion.
During my class prep, I craft the questions I will use and consider learning objectives.

Hi Ellis,
Great response! Learning is always a work in progess. There is really no end to it.

I prefer making the lecture a constantly interactive dynamic between students and instructor. New material is brought to light by reviewing past material and possibly previewing material yet covered. This makes learning, in one respect, a continuous running dialoque which undergoes persistent revision and analysis and application. Ideally, no fact gets taught without context and interaction.

Hi Julia,
This is real learning. When we make learning apply to the real world. Students get a better understanding of the importance/relevance of the assignment.

Hi ROB,
Most students appreciate a review of any kind. The review really shows how much the student has retained.

In Presentation Skills class i give my students a scenario of who they are, and the speaking situation, then they must make choices about how they would structure their speech for their audience.

I like to keep them thinking by reveiwing lesson plans in a way that gives them time to open up a group discussion.

Hi Thomas,
I have found that students love verbal quizzing, and they really learn from each other using this method.

As I present the power point my question to the students as a class to discuss is why does this happen and does it make sense?Than I guide them thru how a system functions by quizzing the class verbably around the room correcting and coaching the responses. I get alot of good answers and the class gets into it.

Hi George,
I have used the correct/incorrect teaching method, and students tend to make less mistakes by me utilizing this effective method.
