i ask my students how much they are going to sell product wise, each week. then we see if they achieved that goal.

I teach long contact hours course (4.0 hrs.) lecture plus hands on. During lecture time I always assure that all students are fully engage with lecture by providing more interaction depending on topic. I present the topic key facts ,then separate the class in small groups or teams, delegate each team to prepare some questions for other teams mates,as well to put together puzzle and trivia games by using the info from lecture and the use of visual aids and technology.( They get really envolved and keep them in their toes and out of the box), lots of critical thinking with good energy and very possitive results! With respiratory therapy students must know how to deal with the various scenarios. I know they are taught these various scenarios in class. A good idea for in class is to have role playing involved with the various scenarios. Students love it when we make it as real as possible in the classroom.

Respitory Therapy demands many scnerios. An example might be, a patient that has secretions in their lungs and the student suctions them out and now the patient has wheezing. The question might be, what developed because of the suctioning? The student should formulate his answer based on those things that could cause the reaction.

I love this idea! I teach telephone techniques, and I allow my students to do a lot of role playing based on various scenarios. The students really get into the role playing part of the lesson.

I am currently teaching a front office class and we go over the telephone techniques I give them different situations of when patients call in and how would the handle it such as emergency, upset patients, rude patients etc... we then discuss as a group how different students would handle it.

You may want to try guest speakers and field trips as well. They add a lot of excitement to the course.

I am an instructor in the HVAC/R field. My daily class uses two hours of classroom lecture and two hours of hands on lab time. I am going to start using more small group activities in the classroom now that I have had this instruction.

Super way to get all involved. I am sure most of your students are very knowledgeable due to this activity. It forces them to know their terminology because they know a medical term will be on the board daily for them to respond to.

I teach medical terminology and before class starts I put a medical term on the board. The class has to tell me what it is, if it is a disorder or disease they have to tell me the signs and symptoms as well as the tests used for the diagnosis. Then they have to give me a prognosis. This way all of my students are in on the discussion.

My student's gain the most knowledge from "acting out" patient scenarios and actively performing their skills utilizing real life examples

I also enjoy using case studies in my courses. Students like to apply what they learn with real life scenarios that they can apply with patients in their clinical setting.

My didactic courses are usually 3 hours long, this format is too long to hold students attention. I lecture for 20-30 minutes, then will present a question that students will work in pairs to answer. I give them 5 minutes to work with their partner and then I go around the room to solicite their answers. Another strategy that I use is to give students a fill in the blank outline. I tell them to listen to the lecture without taking notes. Then after 20 minutes I let them work in pairs to fill in the blanks which I review with them after the time I allow.

Other stragegies that I use are short student presentations for topics that I assign to student groups. Students use their computer to research a topic and then present to the class.

Most learners are visual. I am sure this particular exercise goes over well. Most students enjoy using their creativity to get points across.

In visual storytelling the artists must make decisions on what to show and how to show it so that an audience can understand and enjoy the story. In most classes students are given scenarios that they must solve via their storyboards or animations which are then discussed in critique sessions.

I imagine this is a lot like putting together a puzzle. Students have to use analytical and thinking skills. Very creative idea.

When my class begins the topic of problem solving, I start the class with comic strips cut into squares. I give each student one square and tell them that they need to find the other three squares that make up their comic. Once they complete the task, and we check for accuracy, we discuss how they went about solving their problem, what techniques did they use that they could use in other environments.

I concur! This is definitely something that our students need to focus on--think before they speak. I tell my students all the time once you say it, you cannot take it back.

After the fact is what alot of our students do. Trying to get them to think before talking is really needed for them to succede in life.
