Active learning
Getting adult learners involved in their learning is one of the fastest ways to get involvement in the material. Adult learners have usually found in their lives that when applying skills while working is the fastest way to learn and accomplish a task. So why work against this, they usually do not want to sit and memorize information. I have found that teaching these individuals the skills they will need in the field, and practicing these skills will also counteract the learning differences that tend to arise between young and adult learners. this in turn tends to engage the students in a more meaningful manner.
Hi Brian,
Students need active learning, especially in math. They need to do the problems in order to gain understanding. Teaching them how a paricular mathematical concept will help them personally/professionally is a great connection as to why they need to know math.

Teacheing math makes it difficult at times to do more than lecture, but to try and get the students involved I try to present information on how they will use what I am Teaching them in "real life". For example, Medical Assistant students may use proprtions in determing dosage of medications.
Hi David,
Students really want to do (hands-on). I have to let my students know that we are going to do, but we need to get some theory in order to understand what it is that we are going to do.
