preparing for lecture

Your preparedness will directly determine your success. This is a great way to modle how to succeed for our students.

I strongly agree with you sir, name of the game is preperness and be sincere concern for well being iof your students

Hi Jeremy,
Good point. The key is the students getting it. If they don't then a serious rethink needs to occur and then planning proceed from there to correct the reasons why the students didn't get it.
Gary

I would have to agree here. Placing emphasis on "your" time causes a bridge that may be uncrossable by your students. Your presentation and how the information is "perceived" as valuable to the students is not a direct reflection on how much time you may or may not have spent. A great presentation of information may be prepared by some in 15 minutes, and others in hours. In either case, if the students "get it," it is a win for all!

Definitely something to think about. But if done the right way I'd disagree that it would be condescending. Actually when people know the facts they may put more in because the person instructing is doing the same. High stakes for all stakeholders.

I would be leery of placing any emphasis on how much time instructors use to prepare. I feel students are more interested in just knowing you are prepared. It could seem condescending to tell them how many hours you put in.

Absolutely! I would agree and even to the point in explaining how many hours the instructor uses to prepare so that the students are aware of the importance that is placed on the relationship on both sides. It truly is an investment of time for everyone.

After reviewing the course material and lesson plans, I would attempt to figure out a way to make the class more applicable to the world around us. Example, If you are teaching a brief section on drug and alcohol, is there a way that you can compare those drugs to everyday items that we utilize? People who utilize pot = people that put on hairspray each day. Just my thoughts.

Does anyone having any suggestions for preparing for classes that you yourself are not enthusiastic about. I may be confronted with this situation and feel that my confidence level is low. The subject being taught is hard to teach and the material is very boring. How would you prepare for this class.

I just recently started teaching and was only given the book for the class to use to help get ready for the classes. I didn't get the additional instructor material until the middle of the first week. It worked out ok but it made it kind of hard to prepare for the class since I had not taught before.
