There is good infermation in the text book
If you can get the student to bring it to class
I am teaching Eng 101. The material on the portal is unbelievable.
Gary, while not the response I was looking toward hearing, today, a former student asked me if I had changed anything in the class. I replied that we are allways updating, why. And she said some of her friends in my present class had asked her for help with the homework and she said that it was "different" than when she took the class. Go case studies!!
Hi Bennett,
I have had much success with case studies and I hope you do as well. The students really get into finding solutions to the problems presented in the case studies. These case studies help them to see the relevance of what they are studying, plus many of them start to read the textbook so they will have more information about how to solve the problem in the case study. This way I get two things accomplished, the students read the text more often and their problem solving skills are being developed.

Well I'm down to one hold out on bringing the book to class, but with a fill in the blank quiz it was apparent few had read the chapter or remembered reading the material.
So how to get the students to read the book?
I'm working on finding case studies to have the students fill out then I review the next day with the entire class. This is the first class I'm trying this with so don't know how it will turn out.
