Growing as an instructor

Coming from a technical field and now teaching about that field is quite the change for me. Going over basic information like this is good as it breaks teaching down to basic pieces and allows you to better understand what is required to impart your knowledge to the learner.

everyday i learning something new not only from my students but from other instructors

Hi Larry,
I enjoy the fact that our profession is dynamic and there are constant changes. I learn from my students individually as well as my classes and I make changes accordingly. I change my syllabi often and my test questions(essay) are constantly being adjusted to ensure more clarity. I even make mental notes during my lectures to include more information or take away that which is unnecessary.

I have also learned a great deal about myself as far as well as learning how to be an effective teacher. I believe this is a great course and I think all new teachers would benefit from it.

Hi Rich, I find that you never stop growing as an instructor. Every class is a new opportunity to learn and grow. Remeber that you can make mistakes but those mistakes do not have to bury you. Sometimes the best learning is the learning tht occured because of an error. relax and thoroughly enjoy the teaching experiance because as far as I am concerned it doesn't get any better that that

the best thing about being an instructor is that it is a constant growing thing, the field is constantly growing, technology is improving and you constantly challenged by new people in a changing society. you meet new challenges everyday.

As a new instructer i'm finding the same but I am also learning alot about my strengths and weaknesses

Hi Thomas,
Sounds like you enjoy your time in the classroom with your students. That is what keeps many teachers coming back day after day. Keep up the good work.
Gary

I could not agree more, It is one thing to know it is another challange altogether to teach. I love sharing what I know, but what really is enjoyable is helping students learn what they did not think they could. That is when the basics of teaching get tested.
