Role model

As instructors, we must not lose the vision of being fair and just when grading student tests. As a role model, we instructors must inspire students to be honest and to take their studies seriously to better themselves. I say this because I have come across students who are taking classes to just get by and do not take thier studies seriously.

As a role model an instructor must carry on his multifaceted tasks, such as being prepared for his presentation and its contents along side with his flexibility to mention the easier stuff so the students can pick up what they have forgotten, depends on the institutional settings and their academic environments. A role model is always positive and will do his or her best to help the students. Take his time while keeping in mind the listen plan and so forth. I will do my best to watch all of my behaviors to be presented in its maximum respect to my students. For this reason I study and read the text/Lab constantly so I have the knowledge of my subject and that will bring a lot of respect for the teacher. I am kind with my students, but there are times that I have to follow my management and my leadership style to help keep my organizational activity alive and well. You have to be serious and at the same time kind and respectful to your students. As them questions and make sure they are awake and learning with a lot of fun. Actually learning can be fun. A teacher can stimulate the brains in a way that the student becomes addicted to learn more and more.

Thank you,

Hi Rod,
Thank you for sharing the feedback you get from students. This is one of the major reasons that we are in education, and that is to have an impact on the lives of those that we are training. It is always good to know that they appreciate and see the value of what we are sharing with them.

I ALSO HAVE HAD STUDENTS COME BACK AFTER THEY GRADUATE AND SAY THANKS, I TRY TO TELL THEM THE REAL WORLD CONCEPT THAT THEY WILL BE FACING WHEN THEY GO INTO A AUTOMOTIVE SHOP. SEVERAL OF THEM HAVE TOLD ME THAT THEY WENT TO WORK WITH OPEN EYES AND THAT EVERYTHING THAT I HAD TALKED ABOUT HAPPENED. SEVERAL OF THE STUDENTS THAT HAVE GRADUATED STILL E-MAIL ME AND LET ME KNOW THEIR PROGRESS AND SOME TIMES THEIR TRIALS. IT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD THAT THEY HAVE THAT TRUST IN ME.

I tell all of my students you should have at least two role models the can relate to. One may be a family member while the other may be a celebrity.

AS AN INSTRUCTOR AND AS AN EXECUTIVE CHEF OF MANY YEARS, I ALWAYS TRY HARD TO LEAD BY EXAMPLE AND PROVIDE LEADERSHIP TO STUDENTS AND ASSOCIATES ALIKE BY SHARING MY CAREER EXPERIENCE IN A POSSITIVE WAY.

As Roll Models we must acess very quickly where our current class is, as far as knowledge base. We must lay out the class and Lab rules up front and explain what we expect of each indiviual. Let them know that the real consequses of their actions reflect on the class as a whole

Hi Petulah,
These student comments are what teaching is all about. They learn skills and knowledge but they also learn about relationships that are key to developing professional networks that can assist them in their careers for years to come.

As an instructor, I have often found myself to be good at reading students when they come into the classroom. There have been times that I notice a student is having a hard time with the class assignment. I would stand with them and talk them through it. If they sart talking about just quiting and feel they can't do it I try to persuade them not to. There have been times when I have heard one student tell another student that is having difficulty that they should talk to me and see if I will be able to help them. In the end the utmost joy for me is when the student comes to me and says "Thank You, you were there for me when I was ready to quite and you wouldn't let me.

As an instructor, I try to present to my students someone that they can respect and model. I pay close attention to their moods, on a daily basis, so that I can pick up on behavioral changes that may be a sign that something is not going right for them. I find that if we show concern for them as a person, they are much more likely to observe and model us.
