Diversatile? (A. Andaz Ahmad)

What happens when you combine learning styles and diversity? Well, a new word is coined, "diversatile". As an instructor, one has to meets the diverse needs of students from wide range of ages, backgrounds, experiences, ethnicity, etc. as well as their learning style needs. I also believe that once a learning style is determined for students, an instructor should encourage students to enhance their weaker learning preferences, and avoid solely feeding them information in their predominant learning style only. What are your thoughts about it?

A. Andaz Ahmad

Hi A. Andaz Ahmad,
I agree with you on the need for students to learn how to take in information in their less dominant learning preference areas. In our professional lives we don't get to chose the one learning style we want to work in, we have to process information in what ever format it comes in. I like to know and use students' learning styles as we get started so they will have early course success, get comfortable and then can expand out into the other areas.
