We are all learners.

As instructors, we are helping students build upon their prior knowledge. In doing so, we occasionally become the learner. Many instructors of adults do not receive as well as they give knowledge. Like students, we are constantly building upon our prior knowledge. We, as instructors should embrace learning from both ends.

I have to agree. I am constantly learning or relearning things I already knew, but forgot. I am also constantly learning to readjust the way I teach a class based upon the types of learners I have for lecture.
Thanks:
Ms.K.

I love the fact that as an instuctor I get to learn for my students. I am teaching at a culinary school and I have noooooo idea how to cook. So I am really glad they share with me and I am so happy to share with them.

Interesting point, Constance. Many of the people at the school where I teach have expertise that they share in the classroom. Its both helpful to the discussion and can stimulate me to do further reading about the topic being discussed.

I agree with you about learning from our students. Working in a diverse school I had to learn about the cultural differences in order to help my students to maximize their learning potential. In the process I found myself being the student many times.

Hi Constance,
You hit upon a key part of professional development and that is the instructor as the learner. By doing so we as instructors continue to grow and become better at what we do.
