My instructional style is flexible. I don't have one set way to do things, I like to change my style based on the learners. My students take learning style inventories, so they can see what types of learners they are. This technique has really helped developed and enhanced my instructional style. I am constantly assessing for feedback from the students to improve the learning experience.

One tool that we are currently using is a system where we can insert questions to assess feedback right into PowerPoint presentations. The students have remotes and program in their answers and the system has instant charts it produces to give a breakdown of what the class answered. I am new to using this system, but I am going to get more comfortable with it to further refine my instructional style.

knowing your class and where they stand is very important

I am anxious to receive the feedback from my instructor evaluations. I appreciate the information that students and other faculty members can provide me. I am a firm believer that perception is everything! Regardless of what my intent is as an instructor, the perception of the students is what really matters. If they feel I am unclear in my presentation or if they become easily confused, then I will need to work on improving my methods.

I have a style that is focused on giving the students that "RealWorld" perspective. I do this by giving examples from my own businesses. This gives me an opportunity to let the students know that I have traveled the road that the are moving forward on.

Hi Cathryn! No doubt you will develop in time an instructional style all your own; as you pointed out though, even more importantly, adapting our teaching methodologies to the styles, characteristice and learning challenges of our students is the crucial point.

Thanks for your observation!

Hi Brenda,
This method helps to keep the students engaged in the learning process for longer periods of time since you offer them a change of pace through the worksheets. Well done.
Gary

I have an energetic and humorus personality. i use case studies, demonstrations, incorporate personal experiences, games, and lecture(use power point).

I teach math classes and after I go through the lesson and a few examples I have the students work on in-class worksheets. This breaks up the session and gives the students an opportunity to solve problems right away instead of waiting for homework time.

Being a new teacher I do not think I have totally come up with an instructional style. What I have learned in teaching my first class that I am finding the using a combination of lecture and lab time together seems to work the best for the students. Then the students are able to put what we just talked about into work right away. I belienve the more I teach I will discover a style of my own that will work for me and the students, it will also need to be changed depending on the students.

As an instructor of paralegal students, I bring in a lot of real-world legal documents illustrating the concepts that are being studied and learnt. As a class, we review, analyze, and discuss the documents and the specific applications of them. By this, I am endeavoring both to model for the students a professional in the field and to motivate the students by showing them the end product of their own educational process.

It is interesting to listen to other instructors. You can always gain knowledge and new approaches from them. A review of the student assessments are also a good learning tool for me.
I think this training is a great way to become a better instructor also.

Hi Afsaneh, thanks for your comments; student feedback has always helped me to keep a pulse on the class, adjust presentation and activities accordingly, and better assess student mastery of the learning objectives.

I like to know the feedback form the students and make changes accordingly to ease the learning/retention for students

Feedback from students is always interesting. I feel like I am making adjustments to the group but it always seem that I adjust outside of what I am comfortable with and end up not pleasing some other group of learners. This is difficult to get the balance right. Sometimes I wish students would be more open about their feedback, especially when it is sought out for performance improvement.

Listen to the students regarding their learning styles. Making the changes which are required by the field of study or researching a certain topic to bring up-to-date information to the classroom.

I like to bring new ideas to the class, so continuing my education to promote higher education to the students.

Listen to what the directors have to say regarding different approaches or tone of voice in a classroom setting.

Hi Craig,
One of the keys to instructional development is getting feedback from a variety of sources. The more input we can have the more options we have to select from when comes to teaching. Good idea.
Gary

I discuss classroom challanges with other instructors to get their feedback on techniques and outcomes.

Hi H,
Great explanation of why you do what you do and the results you get from doing it. By preparing the next generation of nurses at the level you are you are leaving a legacy as well as offering excellent nursing skills for patients.

As a design instructor, adopting a strategy of reviewing anonymous unsigned examples of work to serve as baseline assessments would help to determine the actual effectiveness of students' work.

I can use different Educational strategies I have learned by attending various workshops and seminars.
