Sometimes I find it somewhat of a challange to "slow down" or "speed up" the class. According to how student are keeping up. Every so offten I get classes that are all over the spectrum. How would I "slow-down" and "speed up" at the sametime?
Hi Brando,
Thank you for sharing these strategies. You are right about the work and the resulting rewards. It is so exciting to see students putting forth effort and then realizing that they can do the work with excellence. That really fires them up as you know.

Having taught public high school science classes, I understand the challenges that you are describing. In my experience, I found it quite helpful to scaffold the content you are teaching. For the more advanced students, design assignments that are more challenging, higher on the Bloom's taxonomy list,. such creating board games based on the unit content or perhaps creating a video podcast (staring themselves) illustrating their understanding of the content material. For students who require additional support, you provide it along with assignments that allow for multiple opportunities for learning the same concept/information (You may also have these students create a video podcast or perhaps a crossword puzzle). In doing this, all students learn the same information. This sounds like a lot of extra time and work, and it is. But for your hard work and creativity, you are rewarded with a class full of A students.
Hi Miguel,
One way is to break the units of the course content into small bite size bits of information. Then the students can use each of these small content amounts in a way that meets their learning needs. Also, you can put the students into learning groups which will allow the team members of be helpful to and supportive of each others learning pace.
