Motivation is the key
Ifound that at the beginning students seem to be very motivated because their excited and everything is new,grades and attendance are fine.
How do you keep motivating time and time again?
I find that by exploring ways to apply the skill sets the students are learning, to situations outside of their main course of study (ie. alternative careers, or personal activities) helps motivation.
I agree that motivation and encouragement are important to the learning environment. I find that if I break the subject matter down into doable projects, instead of merely lecturing, it helps students motivation.
ive found that guest speakers are a great tool. the students sometimes need someone from the field to give encouragement.

I would try to come up with some innovative ways to teach to all 4 learning styles. By doing this you should be able to keep all or most of your students motivated.

The key to continued motivation is to provide activities that keep them engaged. The activities need to build on previous activities so they see a progression of growth and knowledge. This keeps them excited throughout the course.
