Instructors as Role Models
Role Models are very important because when you are in or out of class you never know who is look at you. And some students do not have a role model in there life, that they can follow, and you may be the person that they are looking up to as there role model.

Good point and well said. Be modeling the accepted behavior of the career area then the students have something to measure themselves from.
I wish that more parents would accept the responsibility of being parents as you have outlined it.

Inorder to learn a particular culture, nursing, students need to know the behavior they must model in the profession. Who better to show them than the subject matter expert; the instructor. If an instructor is late, his/her clothes are dirty and wrinkled, or they give paperwork to their students that is unreadable, then it becomes more difficult for the instructor to correct the student for the same behavior. This paralles the parent/child relationship. Inorder to raise honest, law abiding children, the parent must model the acceptable behavior.
As a model, all eyes are on you. This is why it is so important how an instructor presents his or herself before the students, the people that are served, and the community. It fits within the mission and value that should be the same for all instructors and students alike.
