
Imagine youself in the student's shoes and remember what it was like. It will assist you in being a better instructor with more empathy.
I think this is an excellent point to make. I think sometimes we think as intellectuals, as intelligent educated adults and we don't often remember that those we are working with are not yet at that level. In addition to teaching at the college level I also have a full-time job that allows me the opportunity to work with people 5 years old up to adults. I often have to remember and practice at preparing my language and presentation to different age groups and education levels.
Very good point. I am a new instructor of a course taken in a student's first quarter. I initially overestimated their level since it has been about 20 years since I was at a freshman level in college. Taking time to remember where I was at then has helped me relate to them.
