Targeted performance compliments

I discovered that by frequently complimenting students on a great job done, their participation and interest levels rocket higher. Is this something that's been discovered in other classes?

In addition to Praising a student for a job well done It is good to praise, them for hard work as well. In the working world Praise is not often awarded when deserved, With students you have a rare oppertunity to praise them for putting in a great effort even if the out come was not perfect. They still put in hard work, and if they have learned from any mistakes they made and can tell the instructor what they did wrong and how they are going to correct it they have learned. After all learning is the unlimate goal.

Hi Samson,
Praising a student for a job well done is a "common sense" part of teaching but many instructors don't do it so it is good to be reminded occasionally at how beneficial it can be in helping to motivate students.
