Individual Teaching Style
I really liked how this module discussed reflecting on our past as we establish our own personal teaching style. Something I never realized is how much my past instructors have influenced the way I teach. My favorite instructors were those who not only had a passion for their subject, but also showed respect for the students who wished to learn about the subject matter, too. They were passionate in the classroom and enthusiastic about passing on their knowledge to their students. I realize now that I try to emulate the teaching styles that were most effective for me as a student.
What past experiences influence your role as an instructor?
I to often find myself modeling some of my favorite teachers but because of my strong personality and past experiences I am finding my own style of teaching in which I am building better rapport with my students.
Hi Shakespeare,
Recognition is important for students as you know from personal experience. So the more we can recognize and support students the higher their motivation levels are going to be.

When I was in college, I felt satisfied by just passing any tests or examinations. Then I had this instructor in Anatomy who had the style of displaying top 10 students name on the board after each tests results(even if only a short quiz). One day I found my name on one of the top tens, I felt so proud that prompted me to be one of the competetive students afterwards and improved my grades a lot. I adopted the same style, as an instructor I find it a bit motivating.
Trying to emulate a teacher that you once had sounds like a great plan. Chances are, if you liked that teacher, then others did too. That teacher is doing something right in order to get you interested.
I find that I attempt to model my Phlebotomy instructor who most motivated me
I too find that I attempt to model those teachers who most motivated me
I find that to be easier as well remembering how my college professors were
I also find myself modeling my teaching style to that of my favorite teachers. I also try to accomidate the different learning styles of the students.
I often find myself comparing my style to that of my favorite teachers and professors.
Hi Lisa,
Coming from a family that had very limited opportunities to go to school at any level the doors opened by education was an eye opener to me. So when I had teachers that helped open the door of opportunity for me it was like magic because I could learn some many things from so many different people. Have been a life long learner as a result.
