Developing a teaching style
How long would it take to develop a style? I am guessing that as I get more experience and acquire more and different knowledge, my style will constantly change. If we are able to incorporate our new knowledge and skills than our style will be constantly developing. I feel that teaching can be a great way to learn new things. There is always going to be students that will challenge you with questions you don't know how the answer to, and looking up that answer will help you learn. YOu will also learn and adapt your teaching style based on the preparedness of your students.
I agree with you too, Wendy! I make sure I review their lecture and lesson plan and when we go into lab, I find they great insight and good quesitons which makes me sharpen myself!
Hi Wendy,
Good advice for your faculty. This advice will give them confidence in their abilities plus it sets the stage for successful teaching.

There are so many ways of having a teaching style... what works best for the instructor, as long as it benefits the students, is always best. Your style can change quit often and thats ok. If your challenging your students then your doing a good job.
Yes, I do agree it is a win/win for everyone, and I remember when I began teaching, I could not believe I was getting paid to do what I was doing!! I am a Program Director now, and sometimes it is very hard to make my Instructors understand that it is ok if they don't know everything--but it is NOT ok if they are not honest with a student, admitting they don't know, but they will find the answer and let the student/class know by the next day, or the next time the class meets.
Hi Wendy,
To me this is a lot of the fun being a teacher. We get paid to keep on learning while sharing our knowledge with others. This is a win win for everyone.

I agree--I have been in Nursing for a number of years (lg. number)yet I am never surprised by the questions my Medical Students ask! And I do find the more I look up, the more I learn too!! Wendy
Hi Noemi,
Right you are about the evolution of your teaching style. The more you learn about teaching and the more experience you gain while doing it the better you will be able to refine your instructional style. The key is as you mention have an open mind toward learning and growing as a professional.
