Learning Objectives

I write learning objectives on the board for each class.

Hi Kimberly,
This is a very good teaching strategy. In learning theory we call it "bridging". You are creating a mental connection from previous content, to current content, to future content. This way the students can see the sequence and your experience with them after you were out ill supports this strategy.

Something that I have been using for a few weeks that the students really enjoy is when I'm writing the daily objectives for the present class, I also include a brief review of the previous class and a preview of the next class. This helps them to recall the information from last class, apply and work it in with the information in the present class, and lets them know what to expect upcoming. Recently, I was sick and forgot to write it all up on the board and they freaked out, so I know they appreciate the information. Those who want to look ahead can and those who were absent the previous class have an idea as to what was covered when they were absent.
