First Class
Often, I am assigned to a classroom that has individual computer monitors. These can be a distraction; sometimes a student will go on line while I am calling the class to order! When this occurs, I inform my students immediately that if they try to multi-task in my class, they will fail. This gets everyone's attention.
Hi Justin,
As an instructor you are going to have to set a policy and follow it in relation to cell phone use in the classroom. I have a no cell phone rule and so that takes the cell phone issue out of play. This way I can keep their attention when we are covering key course concepts.

I too am having this type of problem. I understand that technology has become a vital tool when it comes to education, however, many times it seems to get in the way of learning. Many of my students check their cell phone every minute or so.
The First class should always be the very first we have to consider to be important and let the class know that they are important.
Hi Robert,
Good point and something that has to be consistently enforced. If not you will soon have all kinds of problems with class management.
