encouraging

I also seem to push my students to strive for perfection however sometines they get discouraged

Shawnte,
One thing I have tried is to develop short term contracts with such students. Since she comes for 3-4 consecutive days then I would develop a contract for 5 days with some type of reward. Then talk with her and try another contract. The key is to keep the support going for her in short segments and see if you can stretch out the length of time she stays on course.

I'm having a simuliar issue with a student. I've been trying to encourage her about her attendance but it seems i'm not getting any where. When we speak she is on board then she misses 3-4 consecutive days. What can I do to help motivate her to want to come to school more?

Hi Anthony,
This is a good way to relate to students because they often don't realize that most of us went through the same struggles as they are currently to get our education. This way they know you really do understand what they are experiencing.

I encourage learning by using my own personal struggles. For example, I tell student I've went through the same situations they are going through. I used those example in my life to encourage the students.

Motivation is a very important aspect in encouraging learning. Motivation! Motivation! Make your subject very interesting.
How do most instructors encourage learning? This happens at the very beginning of the course Explain each aspect of the course and how interesting it will be with everyones' interaction. Love it!

Hi Olivia,
It is ok to push them if they have a clear understanding of the reasons why you are encouraging them to have high standards and work toward them. Take a break now and then and have some fun with the students like playing a game that reviews the content before a test. Little things like this help them to stay engaged.
