I've always prided myself at being able to give my students the "real world" and mix that with whats expected. Alot of times its sad to say but what is taught in a book is sometimes never applied.
Arthur,
Yes, it does. By pointing things like this our in the text you are demonstrating your expertise to your students by showing or telling them what the correct content is. This will increase their respect for you and what you are teaching.

I agree with the book sometimes not being correct.Good thing we have background experience to the reasons why the book may be incorrect.Application of real world against the book does work on occassions.
You have to know your subject matter in order to have the attention of your students to follow the lecture clearly.
Alma,
Good point. Application and relevancy is important in the instruction we delivery. The students need to see an ROI to what is being taught.

I believe given the student the material that will help their knowledge/application in the "real world".By knowing my subject matter and by reading their book helps my focus on the material thats needed
Terry,
Good strategy because the more experience and expertise students have with being able to problem solve the more successful they are going to be in their careers.
Gary
I agree. I've always given my students the "real world" and what can happen in different situations and how to handle them, be it good or bad. There is always a solution. It's all in how you handle them.
Hi Deborah,
You are right about needing to offer instruction that has application and relevancy. Theory is good as a foundation but students need to learn how to apply what they are learning in different settings if they are going to be successful in their careers.
