Advice or Tips for a New Instructor
Hi! I am a fairly new instructor. I was just wondering, in your opinion, what is the most important piece of advice you could give a new instructor?
The best advice I could offer is to be organized. Develop a lesson plan that is designed to meet your objectives. This will help you to stay on track. I have found that using a lesson plan does not mean that you will say the same thing all the time but it will ensure that you will touch on the areas that need to be covered. You will probably use different life experiences that come to your mind as a result of the different personalities from each class.
DeShaun,
Good advice for new instructors. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Take time and visit with a few instructors and talk with them about teaching. Sit in on some classes and observe interactions with students. Go slow when teaching your first class, remember your training and you should be fine.
Teresa,
Go on line and look at some of the books that are available for new instructors. These will be valuable to your professional development. Two that I think you will like are Rookie Teaching for Dummies and The First Day of School.

i've got so overwhelmed with the instution paperwork about futhering imy education i'm a new insturctor and don't know where to start first to find info
Marjorie,
As a new instructor being organized and prepared is critical. Make sure to bring the "human factor" with you so the students know they have a career experienced individual that wants to help them achieve their career goals if they will put forth the effort. Work to earn the respect of your students and they in turn will respect you. Be the learning leader so make sure to manage the class in such a way that you are consistent and supportive. By now you will have taught a few classes so you are getting the feel for how a class should be conducted. Review the 3 M's until you are comfortable being the manager, motivator and model. Once they have become a part of your instructional style you will
will be on your way in developing expertise as an instructional delivery expert. I wish you much teaching success.
