Professionalism
I feel that this is one of the most important pieces of teaching. Professionalism has many aspects. Attire, behavior, voice, and concern for the students. As long as you stay professional and consistent in all situations, your class should run smoothly.
The way you conduct yourself has a huge bearing on how your students view and respect you. It is so important for you to be professional during all contact with your students in and outside of the classroom.
Students have their own expectations from past experiences both positive and negative. It is our obligation as instructors to remain as positive as possible inside and outside the classroom. Being proactive is another way of demonstrating professionalism.
I believe that professionalism extends to other parts of our lives. Students see us out in public and I try to make a good impression where ever I am. I don't want students to think that I am one way in the classroom and another way outside the classroom. One of my professors called that being a "Moral Exemplar." He discribed that as living a true, good, teachable life.
professionalism is very important. If you are an example to your students, they will leave your class with an impression of how they should act professionally.
Dionne,
Good point and something that instructors need to keep in mind as they enter the classroom each time. Professionalism is the operating standard for educators.
