Instructional Style
Hello my name is Lauren Lopez and I am a Mathematics Instructor at a Technical College, in Atlanta, Georgia. Over the last six years, I have realized that my students become more engaged in the classroom if the content is connected to real-world application. I believe retention is stronger if students can apply the content to their personal lives.
I agree with you Lauren. I worked in the field I teach in for over 10 years and find time and time again that the content they seem to retain the most is content directly relating to specific real life situations and client applications. Of course they do remember the other items and lessons, but I always see comments in the reviews about the real-life connections.
Lauren,
I agree with you in relation to how important it is to give students the opportunity in their learning to see the relevance of what is being taught, in this case math and then apply that content. This increases their engagement as you know plus shows them the value of general or foundational courses to their future career success.
