Carl,
Instructional development never stops and the more input we can get about our teaching the better we can become. You are right about the need for reviewing course evaluations and listening to student feedback on an ongoing basis. This is how we continue to get better.

I try to incorporate many tecniques, I have just discovered the smartboard, and even during lectures I am able to have students up and actively participating. My style is positive and relaxed, although I am always looking for new techniques to deliver the material. I need to work on cohesiveness and organization!

I find that reviewing the class evaluations help me improve my teaching style. Evaluating the class fedback and acting on their constructive crticism can help. I also will evaluate other instructors to see what worls for them.

Sondra,
Sharing real life experiences and making application of the course content shows the students the value of what is being taught. They need to see an ROI on what is being invested in terms of time and money.

Real life expectations that are related to the subject being discussed. Also, let the students engage in the real life situations.

Audrey,
How are you going to work on finding that balance?

Michelle,
This is a practice thing. The more you are in front of your students and the more you refine your skills as an instructor the more confidence you will build in your abilities to communicate effectively with your students. Also, have fun while lecturing and you will relax more you will feel comfortable as the learning leader. I wish you much teaching success.

I try to be comfortable with all the students but also remember that each student is different and might require different strategies in teaching.

Batter questioning techniques and less use of powerpoint

Being prepared, I have my syllabus that is covered with the class on the first day. I have a prepared lesson plan to follow and instructors resources to use.

I am brand new to teaching and I am struggling with being shy myself while lecturing. I am relaxed and effective in an informal lab setting, but lecturing is uncomfortable for me some days.

Mike,
This is what good teaching is about. Helping them to make the connection between the real world where you worked and the content you are sharing with them. Your real life experiences also help them to see the value of what is being taught.

Jennifer,
Good strategy because if they don't feel comfortable they are going to withdraw and not be engaged.

Amanda,
It is fun isn't it? This is one of the fun parts of being a teacher. We get to hear and observe what our students are learning and how they are developing as pre-professionals.

I found that appling what ive learned out in the field has help me with my students

I find that I am being instructed in my instructional style while instructing my students. I find myself making my own notes after lectures as to how to incorporate more activities into each class. It has been helpful to have the information in these activities as a guideline to define and pinpoint where my stengths and weaknesses lie. I see this as an ongoing process regardless of how long I have been or will be teaching.

I do my best to be as approachable as possible so that the students feel they can ask a question no matter what.

i always try to make my students feel confortable so if they have a questin they will ask!!
