Continuous Development
As a new instructor, I found ED101 to be informative and educational. The course clarifies the importance of continued development of the instructor, a process which is ongoing and should not be considered as “finished†when one feels that they have reached an certain level of development. Would anyone else agree that the instructor must continually strive to develop and improve upon the competencies (both professional and personal) which are in required for educating?

Elizabeth,
I think this is an ideal situation for you. As you mention you get to stay current with your field while sharing your knowledge and expertise with students as they prepare to be the next generation of workers in your field.

I would agree with you. I believe that it is very important to continue development of yourself as an instructor but also in you own field. The field I work in requires continuing education and for personal reasons I enjoy maintaining a job outside of teaching to keep my skills at their best. I also am then able to have real life applications and experiences to share with the students.
Neida,
Right you are that professional development and instructor growth is an ongoing process. This is why colleges need to provide opportunities for their instructors to learn new methods and strategies and well as keep current in their technical fields.

I spend more than 20 year working with teachers and librarians professional development now is highly formalized and regulated. The teacher development has clear stages and levels of achievement from initial teacher training like Induction to Senior. Teachers are faced each year with different options and requirements which are comprehensively explored in educational systems. Is a challenge become legally eligible for a teacher position or preparing for all the innovations? They need to developed skills through indicial to senior roles, and has to improve their teaching skills continually.

Clifton,
You are right on with your comments about the need for continued professional growth. It is essential if you are to remain not only current in your field but also current with the best instructional delivery practices.
