So many Career Colleges students come with lot of personal problems that makes motivating difficult. I will ask questions regarding where do they see themselves after graduation and show them the biger picture.
MARISSA,
You are connecting the dots between course content and real life application with this method. This is a great way to show your students the value of the content you are offering and how it applies to their personal and professional lives.

Many students do come to class bringing their personal problems. Motivating these students is a challenge. Some times, these students will sit quietly and appear withdrawn from the rest of the class. Oftentimes, these students can become disruptive. I will explain the importance of the particular procedure we are performing. I will try to let the student see the transference of the importance of the procedure to his or her daily life on the job. Students must see that what they learn in the classroom is transferrable to the real world.
Nazi,
This has been my experience as well. We as educators cannot solve their personal problems but we can listen and be understanding while encouraging and supporting the learning of our students. Their school success can be the means to a future career and that can help with some of the personal problems they are facing.
