These types of activities help to keep the students engaged. Learners like change of pace and variety. You are doing such when you have them go into the lab and take pictures that are related to the content.

Lately I have been assigning tasks during the classroom portion of my class to get the students up and active. Example: Having the student get up, go into the lab area and take pictures (with cell phones or Ipads) of specific components to better understand the anatomy of the components discussed in class.
