Developing as an Instructor

Developing as an instructor require the 3 m's modeling lead by example start class on time models assignments are due on time, managing relays to being prepared a good manager takes in account the the possible challenges and still prepared to lead class and teach students and movitating give students a out side speaker or a goal a carrot if you will to encourage completion.

Carol,
Are are role models by virtue of being the learning leader in class. Your comments are right on target in terms of we need to use the 3M's to guide how we offer our instruction and interact with our students.

I think the 3M's is a great concept to keep in mind while improving as an instructor. Being an upstanding role model is especially key when setting expected standards for students in the classroom.

Jose,
In this situation I would explain when breaks and lunch will be taken unless there is a patient in need of care. This way the students will start to see that the patient is number one and their needs, such as breaks or lunch come second. I think this is such a valuable teaching tool because you will be showing them how it really is when they are out in the workplace. So tell them to be flexible and then reinforce this with examples. Your students will quickly adjust to this type of moving schedule or they will leave the field because they don't believe in making the patient their priority.

Patrice,
If we instructors remember the 3M formula we will be fine as we establish ourselves as the learning leaders for our students and help them to move forward in their career development.

I understand the importance of following the schedule as planned is important, however, as a nursing clinical instructor (new at teaching)I find it very difficult to adhere to break and lunch breaks schedule because it seems that everytime the whole group is ready to go for break or lunch on time, a patient needs our assistance; thus making us late on going to breaks, any suggestions would be appreciated.
