I have been an adjunct-faculty member for about 10 months. It was terrifying at first but I have found that by trying to bring real-world settings into the classroom it has made it easier for me and more relevant to the students. An example would be, I teach Audio Production. One of the classes I teach focuses on proper use of microphones. We will spend an entire term recording 1 song from start to finish focusing on the objectives of the course. This does two things. One is, it takes me out of a classroom setting where it can still be a little intimidating and into an environment that I am very comfortable and two, the students are more engaged because they are helping in the creation of something. Simply put, bring a little of your professional world, outside of teaching, into the classroom.
Sangria,
This is the challenge for many educators. Translating the content and skill sets into teachable units that can be shared and understood with students. I wish you continued success is this area of instructional development.
