Developing as an instructor

It is important as an instructor not only to develop personal abilities, but to show students how to achieve professionally in the real world

Steven,
There are a number of websites that you might want to explore that are from community colleges. I have found that they have very basic and foundational information that can be used by instructors to bring more learning activities into their classrooms. Another great source are elementary schools sites. This sounds like it would not be an appropriate place to go but adults are just taller children in many ways. So go to these sites get the ideas and then put in your content and age appropriate methods of using these activities and you will have good results.

As an adjunct, I am comfortable with my ability to project contemporary industry information based upon my recent career experience. I am, however, interested in introducing more Active Learning activities into the classroom. Can you recommend any good resources for active learning ideas?

Michael,
The more you can do this the more value you associate with your course content. You are showing your students that you know what you are talking about and that you have experience in the field that supports your knowledge.

Eddie,
What are some ways you do this?

I believe that bringing real life experience into the classroom is one of the strengths of adjunct faculty.

as an instructor I like to share some of my on the job experience's and how I handled the situation.

Jerry,
I think by making these connections you increase the value of the course to and for the students. They see both the relevancy and application of the content in diverse ways.

Yes, I believe by matching real life experiences along with the text help put things in perspective for the students. The students seem to get more involved in the subject when using this approach

I agree, while taking on my role as a new instructor, I hve been able to sharewith my students some of my real world experiences. I feel that that should not only get the information that is in the text books, but to apply real life situations to what they may see out in the working field. My students enjoy when I share what I have seen or what I have gone through as a Medical Assistant.
