How important is your homework
They are just as important as your test grade.
Russell,
By following your strategy the value of homework increases because it shows both relevancy and application. By showing both the ROI for the student increases along with their knowledge and skills.

Homework is a great method of reinforcing class discussion and book content. I think it should be extended to take the concepts from above and applying them in situations that exist as practical applications.
I believe Michael is saying that the homework assigned should only cover/reinforce material covered or discussed in that particular class. ex- an opinion speech not apply in a math class.
I agree with Michael. Non-subject material, in my opinion, shouldn't enhance a student's grade.
Michelle,
This is the value of homework as you mentioned. We instructors need to emphasize the importance we attach to completion of homework to ensure the students will complete it.

Homework is very important. As you stated, most learning is done outside of the classroom. Homework reenforces the class room learning.
Patrick,
Homework is a reinforcing activity in relation to what is going on in class. The value of it depends on how the instructor seeing it fitting into the preparation of students. So your points are good ones in relation to how it is used in your setting. Thanks for sharing with us.

I cannot agree that homework is just as important as a test grade. My institution weighs assessments more than homework, but if the idea is that homework is critical to performing well on the test or quiz, I am in complete agreement. I allow my students to submit homework after the assessment. I emphasize that the homework will help on the assessment portion. I feel that the homework is a tool for the student to use as they see fit.
Michael,
Not sure what this means. Can you expand on this a little? Thanks

Only if it pertains to the course.
