What is the most challenging problem facing student retention in your organization?

This is a good point and one that the school needs to follow up on before signing a student. The school needs to help the perspective student to see the value of enrolling and how the courses will facilitate their career development. Then they can proceed with the details of how all of this will be accomplished.

Sometimes its also up to the people who enrolled the students to make sure they can afford the school in the first place what do you say to a student that can't afford gas?

Students like this are common in many settings and all we can do is our best to get them engaged. If they chose not to be a part of the learning process then in the end it is their loss if we have done all we can do as learning leaders.

It seems to be some of the students seem to only enroll so that they can get a refund check only to have them drop out. Clearly, the teachers try to discourage this and to keep the students but it doesn't always seem possible.
