Role Models
We all need to be role models, but we need to do it in a way that the students stay engaged. There is nothing wrong with being a role model, but also be fun and exciting at the same time.
David,
The key is to dress, speak and conduct yourself as a professional in your field, in this case welding. This is what being a role model is about and your are doing such for your students. Keep up the good work.

as a welding instructor, I don't wear a suit and tie, but I dress and act appropriate for my class. my students notice this.
Charles,
Well said. This is an important point because as a role model we need to reflect our field and what a professional looks like that works in it but also the human factor that projects our personality.
