I couldn't agree more. If you are not up todate on what is going on in your field of study the how can you really help students understand what their career will be like.
Expanding my instructional abilities may include: keeping current with difference forms of computer related technology; techniques used to teach to specific learning styles; partaking in workshops that encourage different forms of instruction and becoming more involved with various organizations which offer research and current knowledge which either reinforces what I know or what I should change throughout the duration of my career as an educator.
When i observe other instructor styles i gain a better understanding of how to get through to students so thay can understand and stay interested.
By using the newest information and hands on skills togather.

I could expand my instructional abilities by becoming a better listener, and role model for my class. I can also work on my organizational and delivery skills. It takes time to learn and apply these skills.
Stephen,
You are working through a blend of instruction that involves both the content aspect as well as the human factor. This way the students get to observe and learn from a person that they can model their own careers after.

I feel that if I try to empathize with the students, in regard to being in school, then I can begin to think about the best way to get my message across to them. And if I also taken in as much information as possible about a subject and explain it plainly, then my goal of reaching every student can be accomplished.
To go to continuing education, also from your fellow instructors. I have gotten allot of good ideas from other Instructors. With continuing education combined that worked always great for me. Since there is always new media out there.

I think some ways to expand instructional abilities are to reflect back on how well the lesson went. In my opinion reflection and openness to different ideas is very important in
delivering lesson that caters to the students need. One can get news ideas or suggestions from colleagues or professional development courses in instructional strategies.
Doing a little more interactive work during class time. Keep myself well educated
Some ways that I can expand my instructional abilities are by noting everyday excellence, watching free online lectures, and observe other instructors. Just watching for excellent customer service in my daily living can be an inspiration for improving my instructional abilities. It could be the grocery store clerk, bagger, stocker, or pharmacist. It could be at the fast food drive thru or counter. It could be your pastor. Instructors are all around us. Some are available at our fingertips like viewing free online lectures from a notable university. Another easily accessible source is asking other instructors who they recommend observing. Certainly the instructors who earn instructor of the month recognition are deserving of observing and learning about their instructional abilities.
Christine,
