Chemo,
You did a great job in answering the question as well as demonstrating your professional commitment to teaching. Keep up the great work you are doing and continue to impact the lives of your students.
Gary

Some ways to expand the instructional abilities are reading different books about the subject you are teaching and comparing the information you get from them. checking websites that provide information about your teaching subjects is also good. one thing that I do all the time is to practice my lectures and instructional activities before I present them to my students.

For me to expand my instructional activities, will mean to continue updating my skills, knowing the different learning techniques of each student that enters the classrooms I teach in.

I daily test myself on coding ad well as anatomy. I never provide a test to my students that I have not done myself; and trust me a lot of test banks are not accurate, a good to test yoru self.

I will continuet to have one-on-one converations with my "troubled" students as in attendance and/or in retaining information.

I will continue to find more creative avenues and always keep my positive energy going that my students feed off; even on the days I am exhausted. :)

Expanding my instuctional abilities is so vast, I don't think there is one solid RIGHT answer, ther are many.

I love what I do, as the school where I teach at is also the same school that I use to be a student at; so I put all I have into the class so my students can be successful in all that they do.

Expanding.....will be an ongoing assignment for me.

I also listen to other instructors ideas and suggestions on what works and what doesn't....

I hope I am answering the question appropriately.

The dynamics of the class always direct what tools I use. But I always use some sort of "hands on" in every class. Courses like this have helped give me new ideas. If I get bored with how I'm teaching, I'm sure the students are getting bored too.

You provided great methods to expanding your instructional abilities Sandy. I can actually see myself adopting a few of them.

Some ways to expand my instructional abilities are to attend teachers conferences, join forums for instructors to have conversation and gain knowledge and tips in various areas of teaching.

You can expand your instructional abilities by continuing to educate yourself especially in classroom techniques and student learning styles. You can learn from others by discussion groups, meetings, and observations. Try different approaches. By reading, attending seminars and workshops and taking courses to keep up-to-date with technology and learning approaches. Attend professional meetings and groups.

Every time I teach a class, I expand my instructional abilities. I probably learn as much in each class as my students do. They are learning what I am teaching; I am learning how to reach a new set of people, new ways to keep them interested, and how to do it better next time around.

By taking these courses, it can help enrich my abilities in the classroom. Also, constructive criticism from my program chair as well.

Nadh,
Good strategy. I know your students will benefit greatly from all of your professional development efforts.

I think I can concentrate on motivation, improving the learning environment, being more prepared and finding more support materials.

Think outside of the normal power point slides. Use really life situations that students can role play. Example, role playing a sales call. role play customer service.

Lisa,
Great to hear. I wish you continued teaching success.
Gary

I can expand my instructional abilities by maybe going in other classes and seeing how other instructors manage their classroom, and also I can take an actual class in regards to classroom instruction and management.

To take courses such as this has really helped me grow!

I find take courses such as this one, not only gives me new knowledge, but re-inforces what I already know.

I think that we can expand our instructional abilities by attending professional development course and sharing what we learn. Modeling what we learn and how we want them to present themselves.

The same way that I learned my professional and technical abilities, applying myself and educating myself by doing education courses, reading materials, observing others.

Hector,
All good ways to expand your knowledge of instructional delivery while developing your teaching expertise.

What are some ways you can expand your instructional abilities?

I personally think there are a few ways in which I can expand my instructional abilities. The first of course is, taking additional courses about teaching. There are all sorts of courses available online that assist with the development of new instructors. On the job training would be a second. We can learn a lot from our peers. So, viewing what they do and how we may incorporate that in what we do is another avenue. Lastly, trial and error. I’ve learned more this way than any other. I’ve made it a note to modify the way I teach each quarter by reflecting on the positives and negatives from that quarter and throwing out the things that didn’t work and keeping those that did.
