You can observe other tenured and experienced instructor's. Instructor's that have years of experience have weeded out techniques that do not work within the classroom. They are more aware of what instructional styles work within your particular institution.

Jacqueline,
Good way to reach out an gain input from students and get them to be a part of the learning process. This is what student centered teaching is about.

I have worked at institutions, which offered "in-house" classes on developing teaching styles. I was fortunate to take part in course that allowed me to meet other instructors and discuss various styles.

AS AN INSTRUCTOR, I ALSO TRY TO BE AVAILABLE BEFORE CLASS. i ARRIVE EARLY AND LEAVE LATE. sO IF A STUDENT NEEDS HELP, I AM AVALIABLE.I AM A LECTUROR, AND I INVOLVE MY STUDENTS IN THE LECTURE. i MAKE THEM INTERACT. I WANT THEM TO BE INVOLVED IN THE LECTURE.IT DOES MAKE THEM THINK.

Doinysius,
This is how you will earn their respect and establish rapport with them throughout the course.

I can certainly enhance my instructional style by ensuring that I am relating to all students present to ensure the lessons are understood.

Vincent,
You raise a number of good points in relation to knowing where your students are in their program and how they view themselves and their career preparation. This is valuable information for instructional planning and delivery.

Instructional style is such a varied , but key element to student and instructor success. It really makes or breaks a class. Key issues here are to really know where your students are in terms of how they view their education. Adjustments are crucial to be affective.

Robert,
Colleagues are such a valuable resource and we need to access them as frequently as we can.

Donna,
I am excited for your growth as an educator. You are making a impact on the lives of your students so the more skills and expertise you have to work with as you plan your instruction the more effective you will be.

Jarrod,
The more you can "connect the dots" for your students between the content of your course and the real world the better. By doing so you are increasing the value of the course for the students because you are helping them to move closer to their career goals.

Ana,
Good way to "read" your students and then respond to what you have learned through your observations. This is how professional growth is achieved and as a result your effectiveness will increase as you interact with your students.

Tracey,
With experience will come an understanding of how you are most effective in reaching your students. So keep up the good work and continued growth. The pay off will be worth it to both you and your students.

All three of these professional development activities will expand your expertise. The more you know the more options you have as you plan your instruction. I wish you continued teaching success.

Ralph,
You have addressed a critical needs for instructors. Without confidence it is tough to be the learning leader so the more confidence that can be developed early on in a person's teaching career the better.

Reanna,
I find this as well with my classes. Certain classes need this approach and others require a different way of using the different deliveries of instruction to get them engaged.

Within the institution that I teach at we are afforded several opportunities to include courses such as this one along with other instructional venues provided by the University. Yet, I think that what has aided my growth and development the most in the past is sitting down with colleagues and gaining their insights along with observing them instruct their courses.

I am so thankful to have this opportunity for this on line training course. that will help me grow as an instructor, and be able to establish my own Instructional Style.

In my classroom I'm always referring to how the course content relates to the "real world" . I usually give the students an example from my own Professional experience. This seems to give the students a better understanding of the content.
