Sharyl,
Many times students get so involved in the learning of course content they don't look around for information relevant to their field. You are helping them to see that they will have to keep in the literature if they are going to remain current and at the top of their game. This is a valuable service you are providing them with.

Most my students tend to love powerpoints, then try for themselves.
I also like the movies prior to labs, to visualy give them confidence to due the skills.

I like to bring my professional literature into class so the students have access to it during breaks or if they finish desk work before others.
They can see for themselves that this is a life time of learning in this profession.

I find my style is in a costant educationtional mode.
As I learn from classes, online or at seminars, as well as from my students, I change my style to adapt what is best for my students. Keeping the students interested in the subject matter though different activies.
As I learn I am changed as an instructer and my style reflexs this change.
Although I have taught in different atmospheres, the student is my priority, and my style must evolve to assist them to become the best professions possible.

Darrell,
It is essential that you do this because if you do not stay current you are doing a dis-service to your students and your profession.

Colette,
You are doing a good job of being flexible in your instructional approach and this is important because as you say each group of students is different. Keep focusing on the 3M's and you will do well.

A good way to improve your instructional style, is to stay current on the new techniques, and improvment in your field.

As an instructor, I am continuously reinventing my instructional style by assessing who my students are and where they are at the beginning of a course, which allows me to look at ways that I need to adjust with each and every class. I do believe that I should focus on my roles as model, manager and motivator to continue to improve my instructional style.

Mr.Gran i totally agree with you. Yoe have to be flexibleand ready to change techniques on the fly. I am very aware of my students and how they are responding to my taching style , and if i see that i am loosing them ar that this style is not really working for this partucular class, i make my adjustments and change it up. You have to be flexible and willing to change even if it is challenging.

Tavia,

I can reflect on my past instructors and make comparison of their techniques. I can also get to know the students that I am teaching. Everyone learns differently so that can also be an great tool to use. Finally ask colleagues and sit in on their classes and see what techniques they use.

Gina,
Using this approach you will have success with your students. By using examples from your field you are showing both application and relevance to the students.

Staying current in the field of study I am teaching. To be a teacher you also must be a life long learner. I feel that class discussion is a great way to get the students engaged in the material. I believe I am a lecturing style. I can stand a discuss the ins and outs of my field. I need to lecture less and allow for creative learning development from the students.

Anyone who teaches in a career college should have to take this course before starting their position. I am glad that this is available.
