Everything we do in our classroom will center upon meeting the needs of our diverse student population. I feel we must gain an understanding of all our student’s unique academic, emotional, and cultural differences so that we can help them on their academic and life journeys. To support a culturally sensitive learning community, we need to design and implement lessons that address all students’ academic needs, learning styles, and multiple intelligences.
Sir;
I am motivated to utilize your carefully thought out Professional Development Program. I appreciate the opportunity to be a student in this program. The course of instruction will assist me in my efforts to become an effective instructor and to contribute to my students success.
Respectfully,
Jim Rooney
Techniques that I employ are to attend conferences, workshops, and take training courses (like this one) on better/different ways to enhance my instructional style. Whether it is in the classroom, a lab or a clinical setting.
I agree with yiu on this matter as I try to be most up to date with the subject matter.
I am constantly refining my instructional style through profession specific educator courses, feed back from; fellow instructors; student test taking; student questions. I use all these to make sure I am delivering the information in a way the students understand and retain. I try to utilize as much interaction with my students that the lessons allow. I also try to model to my students what it takes to be a true professional in our industry through techniques, dress and mannerisms that will help them succeed.
HAROLD,
You have put together a good professional development plan for yourself as it provides additional knowledge and skill development both in your field as well as an educator. I wish you much success in your teaching career.

To further develop, refine, and enhance my instructional style, I am constantly seeking ways to improve my knowledgein in the field of Medical Assisting. I have just successfully completed an associates degree program in 'Medical Coding'in or to take AHIMA's CPC coding exam to become a certified procedural coder, thus further developing, refining and enhancing my instructional style.
Emily,
Be flexible just as you mention and you will develop into an instructor of merit. Keep up the good work.

I stay up to date with current technologies and programs with online courses or books depending on the topic. Most of my teaching has involved Microsoft Office programs, but I tend to take an online refresher course before I teach my students the content.
Attend inservices to increase my technical knowledge.
Jen,
Good ways to expand your professional development. Are there other ways you have used to develop your instructional expertise?

Hans,
You are doing a great service to your students with this approach. You are helping them to see the reality of their career choice. The more we can connect the dots between courses and real life the more valuable their education becomes.

Taking classes or watching seminars are one of the ways I stay relevant in the classroom.
I started working early this year as a part time faculty, with more than 18 years of experience in my field but with not experience as a teacher. One of the things that I notice with many of the students, was the lack of clear understanding of what is expected from them in the real work environment and what realistic expectations they should have in regard job opportunities, compensation, benefits, etc. I started to build up my teaching style using real work related examples, and to my content, it was welcome by the students and colleges. Now days my teaching style is base in a mix of my knowledge of the profession with up to date educational material and real work experiences.
