a good classroom instructor

being a good instructor requires c.e. and devotion to your students

Mary,
This is a good reminder for us all. As you say it is a bit harder to keep the boundaries clear when working with adults, many of which may be the same age or older than yourself. By earning their respect and developing rapport with them then you can enjoy being their learning leader.

Becoming transparent is great, but keeping the line between friends with students and being professional should never be crossed. I know for some it gets hard when teaching adults that these lines still shouldn't be crossed.

Barbara,
Right you are. You start by earning their respect and showing them respect in turn. Then you are able to develop rapport with them that build throughout the duration of the course.

In order to build rapport and the confidence of your students you must appear human. Share with the students that you are not smarter than them, you just have had different experiences.

I concurr with Kodee Daniel on the second portion of the statement, becoming transparent is pivotal to overall growth with any teaching or instuctor position.

Well Joseph I'll give you some pointers on being a good classroom instructor. The first is to not sidestep the "forum" portion off your ed101 course. The second, as we just learned is to represent professionalism, while still revealing that you are human and have personal, relatable qualities as well.

Joseph,
How do you demonstrate this to your students?
