how to make a relationship with the students on the 1 day

i'm a new teacher ,going to have my 1st teaching job ,can any one tell me what should be done on the 1st day of class and what to expect

Robert,
This is a powerful motivator. If they can capture this vision then they can set their action place in place to achieve the vision. This Vision Quest is something that all of us need to have as we progress through our careers and the sooner we can get that vision the better. So by doing this with your students you are offering them a great service in their career growth.

My personal way to start a curriculum is to show the concept of VISION. Having vision will help you achieve your goals, have a clear path, have a clear goal, know where you are and where you need to go. I think that today's students lack of vision and a future image of themselves. I like to show where they are and where they can be if they put 100% into the class. I show them the benefits of being in class, the success stories, my personal professional path and others like them, who not long ago were sitting in the classroom and now are successful professionals.

Ali,
Good way to open a new class and set the tone for how the course will operate. By being approachable yet clear on expectations you will let your students know they have a very capable learning leader for an instructor.

I always think, the first day can never be taken back. First impressions usually are the lasting ones. I make myself as an instructor very clear on my policies and standards. I tend to come off harder on day one then the rest of the term. If not I feel students take advantage and push the limits on everything.

Paramjit kaur,
Depends on the number of students. I teach classes between 25-50 students and I have each student introduction themselves. I give them specific things to respond to such as name, why they are taking the course, their career plans, and something interesting about their lives or that they have done. This way the introductions are brief and I keep the class moving forward.

Thank you so much ,I think with time and experience I will feel more comfortable .On the first day should teachers get a introduction from all the students or just give your introduction and start the class .

Paramjit kaur,
What you can expect is to have a case of the nerves about starting your teaching career. A good way to buy you some time as you get used to being in front of students is to have the students do an ice breaker. Ice breakers get students talking, laughing and interacting with each other. A quick internet search will give you all kinds of ideas for ice breakers. Also, have your syllabus and any handouts prepared and ready for review. Once the ice breaker is complete you then can go to introductions of the students and yourself. By this time you will have everyone settled in and you will be ready to share some examples of what will be covered in the course and give them the syllabus. Review the syllabus with them and then you will be ready to go into your first lesson and the assignment you want to make for the next class.

Start on time and be organized and this will help to establish you as the learning leader. In the next few class meetings you will start to see how the class flows and how you need to manage the learning environment.

Don't rush through things and make sure to take a deep breath now and then and check for understanding with your students. They will give you feedback and you will know how to proceed. Prior to your first class if you can you should observe some other instructors so you will get a feel for how to move the segments of a class.

I wish you much teaching success.
