Using new social media technologies as a learning tool.

I have found that using Pinterest, Twitter and Linkedin as engagement tools is highly beneficial for my students and also keep them in the search for knowledge in their free time. Is anybody using other social media forums to engage students and what results are you getting in regards to participation?

LAURA,
Yes it is and it is good to use it at every opportunity. It helps students to stay connected outside of the classroom and to realize that what they are learning in school has application outside of school.

I also believe that social media plays a key role in everyday learning. It should not be considered only a place for people to connect over the web but also a wonderful place to communicate with our students. The amount of time they spend browsing Twitter, Facebook, Instagram among others, makes it a great tool to increase the exposure to specific messages we want to get across. Just by posting short, direct and to the point information that they read during their free time makes it easier to remember since they are not overload with information.

I also use to send motivational quotes or quotes that make them think ann we later on review them before we star class.

Social media is a wonderful way to engage students nowadays!
