professionalism

Having a high standard of professionalism is important to set an example to students.

Austin,
Like your attitude and approach. Students need to see that life is a competition and they need to bring their skills and competencies to the workplace in a way that sets them apart from others. This is best done by outworking others based upon a strong foundation of knowledge and skills. This knowledge and the skills can be acquired while in class but it will take time, effort and self discipline. Sometimes these three are missing in the lives of students and it is up to the instructor to help them to get them to be a part of their work ethic.

Norman,
This is so important if you are going to be a learning leader and earn the respect of your students. It upon this standard that the rest of the course is going to be built.

Absolutely! The instructors are the role models. Professionalism is a must in today's multicultural, well educated work force and highly sophisticated, technology driven work environment. Setting up as a good example to the students is in fact a marginal approach. We, the educators, must epitomize professionalism not only in words but in practice and in deed. That's what I have done in the US military. That's what I am doing now in my institution and that's what I will do to whoever I will be in-contact with who wants to go above and beyond.
